TSH of 40

So I quit smoking and went to get my tsh checked because I felt awful. It was at 9 from 3 and doc raised my dose from .25 to .50

I went to test after 8 weeks at .50 and my TSH was 40!

Is this possible?

My t3 and t 4 are within range.

Yeah, I am 4 months past quitting so there is no danger in me wanting to start again.

It does make quitting smoking even harder though, you think you are depressed or something, but it is the thyroid.

Interestingly, tobacco smoke may help protect against hypothyroidism in patients with hashi so a deterioration in thyroid status after quitting happens occasionally (NOT A REASON TO RESTART SMOKING THOUGH!!!).  Would need to increase LT4 (likely to 100mcg and retest in 5-6 weeks).
