thyroid u/s results

Can any pppplease help me? I have had multiple symptoms for hypoT for several years and the doctors always blow it off, my TSH always normal. I started to have a weird sensation in throat like I had a lump when I swallowed and the snoring got so out of hand, I  requested a sleep study. I went to a new dr and he ordered a u/s for goiter, my results as the radiologists says, most likely benign, but recommends a FNA. Can anyone please help me understand this reading and if I should take more concern or am I stressing myself out more than I need.
rt lobe: 4.4 x 1.6 x 1.6cm
lft lobe: 5.2 x 1.9 x 1.9cm
Isthmus: 0.5mm

there is a hypoechoic solid nodule seen within the mid to inferior left thyroid lobe measures 2.6 x 1.2 x 1.6cm. there is a focal cystic component within the nodule. There is a smaller nodule seen inferior to this measuring 0.7 x 0.7 x 0.9cm. There is peripheral rim of vascularity surrounding the larger nodule. recommend further evaluation with ultrasound guided fine needle biopsy.

My dr has had report for over a week. Should I be concerned and what should I expect in my follow up?

Yes - this is appropriate for a cystic nodule that is 2.6 cm.  Most (90-95%) are benign.

You have a medium sized nodule with cystic degeneration. And a smaller nodule.

What's next, most likely a FNA biopsy of the larger nodule to rule out cancer.  For cystic nodules 95% chance it's benign. Usually FNA's don't hurt much if at all. They give you a local and stick a fine needle in to snag some cells to look at. Mine didn't just a sore neck the next day. So don't be afraid of the biopsy.

Since I brought up the C word. If it's cancer, then they remove your thyroid. And possibly treat with a single dose of radioactive iodine to zap any stragglers. I've read for most thyroid cancer the cure rate is nearly 100%.

For a nodule that's causing mechanical problems.  I'm not real sure.  Two options I've heard of are draining if it's cystic.  PEI (injecting alcohol to reduce it), or remove the half your thyroid that nodule is in.

PS: If you feel you have symptoms of hypothyroidism, you might have your T4 and free T3 levels checked.  Note other hormone deficiencies and vitamin and mineral deficiencies can also cause very similar symptoms.
