? Friends Son

Hey Everyone,
A friend of mine took her child to doc regarding ongoing headaches.  They did MRI(or cat?) and found out that he has inflammation on his brain.  Anyone know what can cause that or have had any experience with it?
Thanks,Charley

Hey,
He is 12.  He has only seen gp - and then had MRI (or CAT - can't remember which) and it showed brain inflammation.  He is scheduled to see a neurologist next week.  His mom is very concerned.  He is just having bad headaches.

Brain inflamation is usually referred to as encephalitis. It is typically caused by an infection, most often a virus. Herpes Simplex, West Nile virus, Meningitis, and Mononucleosis are among the more common causes. Mostly, the child is just monitored, and the symptoms are treated with Tylenol, or stronger painkillers if necessary.
