How absolutely frustrating!!! Grrrr. I feel for you!
My shingles were on my right hip, but my doctor gave me Acyclovir when I got neuralgia on the right side of my head!!
I sometimes wonder about doctors - I really think some of them don't go to school long enough to practice medicine! Maybe they borrowed somebody's notes and passed by the "skin of their teeth".
There are so many specialists - there really should be one who specializes in neuralgia. There are so many different types of nerve pain - Yeah, a neurologist - mine doesn't seem to know much about shingles... only migraines and tingling sensations in the extremeties.
Not putting all doctors down - just some don't seem to know enough.
Perhaps you could see a doctor in a University Hospital. They are still learning and continue to go to school past the 8 required years.
Wishing you a good outcome and a real diagnosis.
So, I went to the Dr. yesterday and he says "no" to the post herpetic neuralgia theory....said if I had the break out on my neck, it would have been coming back to the original area - not my side/back. He BARELY touched the area and it made it hurt so badly...he's thinking bulging disk and wants me to do an MRI or a bone density scan....So I am back to square one - 7th urinalysis yesterday showed blood still in urine 9which I could have told him that) and he said "Well, some people just have blood in their urine...." -Really.
I hope your doctor listens and helps you. I think I have to get some Acyclovir again, too. This pain in my right side won't go away and it's not Reflux...
Wishing you all the best.
Oh my! I did look into it and I am overwhelmed! It fits the bill so well! I'm actually looking at "postherpetic neuralgia" due to the fact that A) the shingles broke out on my neck and B) I have 2 other nerve disorders already. If you are not a Dr., maybe you should consider being one :-) THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm taking this w/ me to the Dr's so that he can look into the (what I think is the answer) possibility...TAHNK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!
Huh....did not know that...thanks for the suggestion1 I have an appt w/ the Dr on the 27th and will bring that up. Take care and thanks, again! I'll keep it updated on here.
If you read on the forum about shingles without the rash, you will see that it can come back again and again.
When I get pain on one side of my body... even my head if it doesn't go away - I go to urgent care and fortunately for me, the doctors there give me Acyclovir so that I don't get shingles again. Works almost everytime - unless it's something else.
Believe it or not, I had shingles last yr around May and took an antiviral for that...hmmmmm....where is "House" when you need him? :-) Thank you for your thoughts!
have you thought you might have shingles without the rash? Zoster sine Herpete. Since you have had the pain for so long, it's possible that Shingles is the answer.
You might suggest that to your doctor.
Wishing you a good outcome...
So the IBS has been always controlled w/ taking meds (Bentyl) for 25 yrs - this is different - visible blood in the urine (although that has "disappeared" and probably need to be tested a 7th time...) - severe pain on and off (mainly on)...no fever - had 2 CT Scans and a cysto, blood test and 6 urinalysis....OBGYN suggested birth control pills - taking over a month now and no help...I have NO ins. and have already spent nearly 3000.00 on Dr visit's and tests.... I am so frustrated and my husband is bent on this being a UTI (I was diagnosed w/ a UTI at 1st, then a Urogenital bacteria - in the last of 6 urinalysis and have taken 6 rounds of different antibiotics (Cirpo twice...last time it was an extended use for two wks...) Now what? Sorry if I sound discouraged, but thus far the medical help I have rec'd from 4 different Dr's have given me no idea of what to do or what it is. I have considered Endometriosis, however, w/ the birth control pill it's supposed to help - it's not working....ugh.
Ok, so....pretend there is no signs of urgency or frequency of urination...pain comes and goes still....actually feels better when I'm on my period...(?) So now what? And I've had a "cysto" w/ out any visible problems - same w/ the CT Scans....
Sounds like Interstitial cystitis.... Have you been checked for that? Sepia is a natural supplement that helps women with all kinds of hormonal problems. Perhaps it would help you.
I'm so sorry to hear you've been in such pain for that long. I'll give you some free sites to check out that may help, please do read the info there. Mark's Daily Apple has a free forum where people share their successes, with conditions such as pain, IBS, constipation, etc. If you change your diet and don't get relief, you can find a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition practitioner and they will most likely be able to help you. It is their job to find the root cause and work with your body to correct any problems. I hope one of these suggestions leads to better health for you :)
