Buffalo Hump

I am going to go see my doctor, and get some blood work. Just was wondering one thing , and i cant seem to find any answer on the internet, or in a medical book. I have gained weight ... everywhere. It is evenly distributed. My arms, legs, thighs, face, belly, breasts etc.... I quit smoking , i had smoked for 19 years, and at the same time got laid off . I have  had a hard time getting a job, and have been completely sedentary. I have been diagnopsed depressed  since i was 19 years old, but i am not more depressed for the situation. So basically i am not active. I dont exersize ...at all. Obviously this is not ok, and i intend to change it, I never had a problem losing weight before. In fact i have always been 5'2 and 100 pounds. Well, now i am 34, so i guess my metabolisim slowed down too. I am about 25 pounds over my good weight... i am 135. My question is CAN somone gain weight in the "buffalo hump " area without it being something serious?  It is very slight, something only i would notice....I mean is it possible to gain weight there, along with everywhere else ( and i mean everywhere haha)  I also have been using the computer for hours everyday, I noticed that I am hunched, with my head down and my neck hurts a lot, So i was thinking That the little fat pad was more obvious because of my awful posture now. I cannot find one place on the internet that says. If you can gain weight in this area along with other areas ( ie my legs and arms are NOT skinny) Or is Buffalo hump only asscociated with Cushings, aids drugs, steroids, or morbid obesity. Could my body just be accumulating fat here? thank you for listening to my long, rant :)

Hello,

You have already listed the conditions which can cause this buffalo hump i.e cushing’s syndrome,AIDS,morbid obesity, medicines like corticosteroids, pituitary tumors and hyperinulinemia. But buffalo hump or dorsocervical fat pad in your case is mosr likely due to obesity.

Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI = weight divided by height squared) of 30 kg/m2 or higher. Most of the factors causing obesity i.e smoking, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle, depression, prolonged sitting  are present in your case.

However, the exact diagnosis of obesity can be made only after ruling out all the other causes. For this thorough investigations are required.I sincerely advise you to consult a physician and get yourself evaluated.

Alongwith I would request you to start exercising and make sure you also restrict your calorie intake and especially the refined sugars which are present in abundance in the cakes, chocolates and soft drinks. I can only say that have faith and start exercising and the results will follow. No pains, No gains.

Wishing you all the best. I sincerely believe that helps. Please do keep me posted.
