Desperate for help

For three months, I have been so ill that I have been in and out of the hospital, and they don't have a clue what is wrong.  When this started, it was because an anesthesiologist put the wrong size tube down my esophagus instead of my trach, and I got extremely ill.  I started having the worst burning pain in my chest and throat that I have ever had.  Then, I had explosive vomiting and diahrrea for about a month.  At one point, I was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.  They did a scope of my throat and found nothing.  Then, they did a PH test, a motility test, a stomach emptying test, checked my pancreas, checked about everything, and found nothing.  The pain was so intense that they gave me straight lidocaine to drink.

Finally, after three hospital stays, multiple tests, and NO ANSWERS, some of my symptoms are going away. I don't vomit anymore, I don't have diahrrea, and the burning pain is gone, (although I do have slight GERD, and it's maintained with medication).

But, now is the scariest symptom of all!  Now, I have this constant dry cough, my throat feels like it is closing up, and I can't seem to catch my breath!  When I walk even 2 feet, I am completely out of breath, and I can't contain this cough!

Supposedly, I went to some of the best doctors in this state, and they couldn't find a thing wrong, and I am reluctant to go to another doctor with this.  I have been in more hospitals and had more tests done in the last three months to last a lifetime, and NOTHING.

This symptom is really concerning to me, though, as I don't believe it is caused my acid (as some people feel like they can't catch their breath when they have reflux), because all those symptoms have left.  I should mention that lung cancer runs rampant in my family, everyone has died from it.

Any help would be appreciated.  Does anyone feel like this is just another symptom of this so called GERD that they couldn't find?  I don't know where to turn anymore.

I do have exercise induced asthma, but it doesn't leave me short of breath if I even walk 2 feet, and I never get asthma unless I swim or run.  As far as an x-ray, they did do an x-ray, but with cancer, rarely does it show up on an x-ray until it's really far gone.  They usually have to do a CAT scan.  The ONLY reason I know this is because everyone in my family is dead and it's from lung cancer, that's why I'm so scared.

Thanks for your post, I will look up pertussis and whooping cough and see if any of these symptoms are the same.  If you can remember who posted the other post that was like mine, please point me to them.

Thanks again.

Asthma comes to mind... but so does something else- I was reading someone else's postings on here and they described something very similar and they came back and posted- it turned out they got diagnosed by a doctor with pertussis or whooping cough.  Did you get a lung x-ray to see if any lesions were showing re: cancer?
