Dizzy Spells Since 1992

I have had dizzy spells since I was around 14.  I was diagnosed with seizures but after years of meds and tests, that diagnosis was dropped.  I have had many eegs, mri's, and heart tests.  My primary physician has been unable to find a reason for my dizzy spells that are accompanied by increased heart rate, blurry vision, at times shortness of breath, and unstable balance.  I was also put on extensive meds for anxiety but none made an impact.  I have these spells 3-5 times a day and they are more severe closer to my cycle.  I am 30 and also have Hypothyroidism and controlled asthma.  I am looking for answers so I can finally live a normal life and drive again!!

You might want to look under the forum for Dysautonomia as one type is Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).
My 17 year old daughter has it and your symptoms are found with POTS.  A Cardiologist can perform a Tilt Table Test to diagnose this if this is felt to be a possibility.  Something you can check is take your blood pressure/pulse lying down; again sitting up with your feet hanging over the edge of bed; and again standing up.  If your heart rate goes up by 30 bpm from lying down to standing this could be indicative of POTS.
There is also a doctor who has articles about POTS that are very helpful.  His name is Dr. Grubb (I think Blair is his first name).
Good luck and I hope you get a diagnosis soon!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hi,

What you have described is a characteristic description of a syncopal attack/syncope which commonly occurs due to the diseases of the brain or the heart for which you have already undergone many tests and I presume they are all normal. The other possibility I was thinking of was Premenstrual syndrome. It’ll be good if you consult a gynecologist to rule out the same although there are many diseases which actually get worsened during the premenstrual period. I’ll advise you to do some regular aerobic exercises, avoid coffee and too much sugar and increase your fiber intake and adequate rest and sleep. I will also suggest you to get your blood sugar tested as what you may be suffering from may be repeated attacks of hypoglycemia.

I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
