About six months ago, I tried marijuana for the first and only time. It was a poor decision on my part, and if I had the opportunity to go back and undo it, I would -- but I don't. I suffered some strange and vaguely frightening side effects that until now I have been reluctant to talk about because of the nature of their probable cause.
When I smoked the marijuana, I suffered from extreme paranoia and highly rapid heartbeat that went away after a few hours. I chalked this up to overdoing it. The disturbing thing, though, was the fact that I couldn't feel my mouth or tongue at all for twenty-four hours after the episode. I could put a hand flat on my lips and not feel it there at all; it felt like there was a hole in my jaw where my mouth should have been. The only sensation I felt was a vague feeling of coldness in the area surrounding my mouth. This numbness lasted for about three days, starting out with a complete lack of feeling and gradually improving over time until normal sensation returned. Speech and eating were completely unaffected, and I had no other symptoms other than fatigue.
There is the possibility that the marijuana I smoked was laced with something. Is it possible that I suffered a TIA? Or, if not, what could have caused the numbness?
