Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since your mother has temperature fluctuations the first things to be ruled out are thyroid disorders, adrenal gland problems, anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, liver diseases, low Vit B12, and vasovagal attacks.
Since I cannot examine her and know other related conditions she may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Thank you so much for the replies. I just spoke to my mother who lives in a different city as I do and was informed that she has been having B12 vitamin injections for the past 3 months, one shot every 12 months. In addition, her PCP has found an iron deficiency, which she has been on medication for. As for thyroid disorders, I know she has been ruled out for that specially because hyperthyroidism runs in her family, and every test done comes out clear.
Her PCP does do regular blood tests on her, and so far has only noticed a deficiency in B12 and her Iron levels. I don't know much about either, but with her symptoms I'm shocked to know that either deficiency can result in such serious distress. Now you mentioned a pinched nerve, or inflammation of the spinal column/brain; how might one go about figuring out if that is the case?
Thank you once again for your quick responses.
I'm sorry one shot of B12 every 2 weeks****
I'm glad to hear your mom is already working with a neurologist. Something like this could be caused by a pinched nerve, inflammation in the spinal column or even inflammation in the brain. All of which he or she should be able to identify.
Also, sensations like this can also be caused by electrolyte/vitamin imbalances. Has her PCP done blood work to verify her blood levels? I'd think he or she would want to check Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, and so on and so forth... The neurologist should be able to check for a nerve degeneration disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis.
It's really nice to see you concerned for your mom's well being. I really hope she feels better. Please keep us posted!
