Hi there, a little more info for you,

-Bacterial gastroenteritis (aka food poisoning) some signs & symptoms:
onset of symptoms: a few hours to a few days.

-nausea
-general weakness
-headache
-abdominal pain with cramps
-vomiting and/or diarhea

-Viral gastroenteritis (aka stomach flu) some signs & symptoms:

-loose watery bowel movements
-low fever
-abdominal cramps
-aching muscles/ possibly headaches

If diarhea and vomiting persist for more than 2 days see your Doctor.
Any child with both vomiting and diarhea should be taken to a Doctor right away.
Also see your Doctor if:
-blood in vomit or stool
-hard, swollen, painful abdomen
-high fever
-chills
-excessive thirst
-excessive lethargy or feelling of exhaustion
-dizziness of lightheadedness on rising or changing position.

In both cases, drink plenty of clear fluids, water is best, if you're nauseous you may want to not eat for 12 to 24 hours as you may just throw up any way. If your'e feeling better later or the next day, try some of the bland foods.
For your info, viruses cause diarhea by infecting and/or irritating the lining of the small intestine causing minerals, fluids and salts to flush the intestine, when it leaves the body, it is diarhea. Stay hydrated!
Take care and hope your'e beter soon! April

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor. If after the antibiotic course too the symptoms persist, then there is a chance that you have developed either IBS or some food intolerance. In that case you would need to consult a gastroenterologist.
Please go through as advised. In all probability things will settle down. At any time you feel that symptoms are worsening (more than 8-10 loose stools in 24 hrs, vomiting, feeling faint, high fever etc) please go to the ER.  Hope this helps. Take care!
