Low Vitamin D levels?

I'm a healthy 33 year old male.  For about two weeks I've been experiancing numbness that started in my right hand and arm and now is completely down my right side into my toes, completely around my mid section, and I'm now starting to feel tingling in the tips of my left pinky and ring ringer and left thigh.  I've seen my GP and a Neurologist and they've run a bunch of blood and urin tests and only have been able to say that my vitamin D levels are low.  I'm not experiencing any chronic pain, just numbness and tingling.  It's worse in my right hand to the point I can't really use it effectively.  Especially writing, brushing my teeth, or holding small objects as those.

I'm having a CT scan today and an MRI is scheduled.  In the mean time I've been instructed to take at least 800 mg of over the counter Vitamin D supplements.  I live in Southern Cal, and am pretty active outside, so I don't think it's lack of sunshine.

I'm worried after reading about this that it may continue for quite a while.  Pretty touhg to make it day to day when I can't even sign my name.  Any thoughts?

Thank you for your insight.  I do feel like they are on top of it, but it takes sooo long to get answers.  Two weeks for this and three weeks for that.  I completely understand that you have to be proactive with your health care.  When I first saw my GP he wanted me to make an appointment with a neuroligist 7 weeks out.  Saw him the next day and he's been the one taking the inititive.

I had a CT scan today which was ordered by my GP.  My neuroligist called me this evening letting me know that it was clean and was able to rule out some more options.  I have to wait another two weeks for the MRI !!  At the rate the numbess is spreading I expect my whole body to be numb at that point and without the full use of both of my hands.

By the way, if it makes a difference, it was 800 IU, not MG.  My mistake. I actually just found out, through this, that there was another form of measurement.

I am actually out in the sun quite a bit.  Walking, bike riding, golfing, and even have my lunch outside at least three days a week for a good 30 to 45 min.  Being next to the beach has it's benefits.  The one thing I don't do is take my shirt off, a lot.  I will try that thiks week especially with the weather getting better.

You need daily exposure to sunshine, which will help your body manufacture the vitamin D. At least 45 minutes a day, preferably with your shirt off.

There is a possibility something in your body does not work well in producing this substance.

In terms of a supplement, you need D3.

800 mg is NOT a lot. That much is normally produced after a relatively short exposure to sunlight.

It sounds like your physician is on top of things.
