Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Chronic yawning can be the first sign of a vasovagal attack. The complex group of symptoms are mediated by the vagus nerve. This nerve is irritated by prolonged standing, standing up suddenly, stress, pain, hunger, dehydration, intense emotion etc. A tilt table test, holter monitor, echocardiogram etc are done for confirmed diagnosis.
It can also be a sign of sleep deprivation, improper sleep pattern, sleep apnea or nasal blockage. It could also be a sign of depression.
Electrolyte imbalance in the blood due to any cause like vomiting, diarrhea, kidney problems etc can cause this. Anemia too could be the cause.
On a more serious note, chronic yawning can be a sign of a brain problem like multiple sclerosis, progressive supranuclear palsy, opiate withdrawal, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, infection in brain or even brain tumor.
This is not something you can ignore. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
How do you feel in yourself? Do you have any stress or do you feel anxious at all? I started to have those symptoms when I experienced panick attacks
Have you had your iron and B12 checked lately in a blood test. I was having similar problems and discovered both were very low.....now taking huge supplements of iron and giving myself B12 injections. Now feeling so much better and no longer have the need for an afternoon nap.
