Muscle Numness, stinging, burning

I have numbness in the left thigh 2-3 above the knee in circle shape about 3 inches in diameter. It's discolored like a bruise (dark brown but not too the point where it looks excessive) it's numb/tingly to the touch but any physical activity such a running/stretching/jogging/lifting weight or walking for extended periods of time causes intense stinging/burning.  It's been this way for about 3 months, I've tried ice packs/heat packs/daily stretching/resting more/sleeping with my leg elevated and nothing has even remotely helped. Any help is useful, and what type of doctor should I see locally to address the issue?

See a family doctor to begin with.  It may be something simple that he/she can treat.  Ive never heard of anything like this.  But if physical activity is hurting it, and you have a visible contusion, I would see a doctor to make sure nothing major is going on.  If he needs to, he can refer you to a specialist.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
This is probably due to deep vein thrombosis or atherosclerosis with clot in any artery. Ideally a duplex ultrasound of the area should be done. Pease consult a vascular specialist. If this is ruled out, then a nerve conduction study should be done and possibility of nerve compression ruled out. Take care!

see a neurologist/neurosurgeon-  had that for years- only went to one neurologist who blamed it on deperession and sent me to a psychiatrist- had numbness left side- big mistake not pursuing it- condition worsened- had to have spinal surgery.
