Pain in the main knuckle of the middle finger

I have had pain in the main knuckle of the middle finger.  I cannot pinpoint the exact cause of the injury. about six weeks ago I noticed shooting pain when i pushed the middle finger laterally while isolated from the other fingers across the sides of the knuckle. I also feel sharp pain when making a tight fist in the main knuckle or gripping my hand tightly around the grip on a weight. Having been a climber for a long time I've experienced lots of tendon injuries in my hands so I figured it would just go away with rest but this bugger is persistent and as bad today as six weeks ago. Unlike all my other hand injuries this one is localized in the knuckle and direct palpitation of the affected area does not illicit any pain. I have been tested for rheumatological disorders and results were negative.

Any insight would be a huge blessing,

Thank you

It sound like arthritis, but I would try hot water on it or a hot pad.. Capsaicin cream could help as well. If all else fell get a second opinion.

Both of those are unlikely as I have full range of motion with the finger and no pain in normal function. It also doesn't hurt when I press or rub the affected area. It only hurts when I pull the finger across the rest of the fingers (either in front or behind) laterally. Or if I make a tight fist.

Could you have dislocated your finger, or perhaps you have a bad bone bruise.
Hope it heals soon
