Rectal Bleeding, colon cancer family history, piles

Hello,

I have noticed bleeding while passing stools this morning. The blood passed was a small volume. The bllod seemed to be only on one stool and on the toliet paper when wiping.

First thing that worries me is that my father passed away with colon cancer. I can remeber that he passed alot of blood on the first indication of the cancer. The second thing that eases my concern a small bit is that i also have piles.

I know i should get a Colonoscopy but the idea of this really bothers me and anyhow with my countries health system i will probably be waiting many months.

Do you think i need to worry? Should i book a Colonoscopy appointment or do i have to go to my GP first? Is it uncomfortable? Can i get an anesthetic so it can be done while i am asleep?

I'm not sure which country you are in but in the U.S. it is standard practice to "put you out" for a colonoscopy.  You simply go to sleep then wake up when it's over.  It's not a bad procedure at all, the prep is the worst part (your colon has to be empty so you will have enemas at home and take medication to flush everything out of your system).  Get on the waiting list NOW for a colonoscopy *AND* call your GP.  There are simple tests that can be done for bleeding in the colon but you will need to have the colonoscopy - especially with your family history.  Don't panic, my first one was at age 18.  Nothing to worry about,.
