Possible causes: costochondritis, buckled rib cartilage from an injury, or a broken rib. I would go to the doctor for a diagnosis
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The symptoms could be due to costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause. However it can be due to infection, blow, injury, or fibromyalgia. It usually goes away on its own. Otherwise it can be treated with muscle relaxants, and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Take care!
U might want to try a heating pad and alternating with an ice pack. If your symptoms start to increase with rapid breathing or uncontrollable pain you should seek a professional opinion. You might also speak with a chiropractor, I once had the similar issue and found that your ribs can actually be out of place due to the back. I hope this helps and I wish the best for you, I know how you feel.
