leg/thigh pain

I am a 36 yr old female with chronic leg pain for a year and half. I am b12 deficient with monthly injections and have hypothyroidism. had a herniated disc at the L5/S1. have almost constant pain in the front of both thighs that feels like it at the bone. It is a burning/aching pain that affects my walking. It hurts to sit, stand and walk. Ibuprofen helps a little but not enough. have had physical therapy for disc but that only helped with the back pain and is mostly tolerable now. had cortisone shots that didnt help at all.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gina

Highly recommended to try sublingual B12. I now take 2000mcg daily for my autoimmune pernicious anaemia. At 1500mcg daily my unpleasant body odor (vitamin B12 deficiency symptom) returns.

"In cobalamin deficiency, 2 mg of cyanocobalamin administered orally on a daily basis was as effective as 1 mg administered intramuscularly on a monthly basis and may be superior."

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The L5/S1 compression, and vit B12 deficiency apart from peripheral neuropathy due to hypothyroidism could be the cause. Of these L5/S1 compression is most likely. This can happen due to overuse of the lower back as in work requiring too much of bending, lifting weight, fall on the back, overweight, canal stenosis, bone disease, spondylosis, poor posture etc.
A MRI of the spine will be definitely required and nerve conduction studies may also be needed. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, lumbar belts, lumbar corsets or even surgery.
discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!

I told my doc that i thought i needed the shots more often but she wont do it. also it has gotten to the point that the shots dont take the pain away at all where they used to make it tolerable for a couple weeks. waiting to see a physiatrist now. i hope he can get the pain manageable as the pain now radiates down to my feet.

Your leg pain could be from your herniated disc. Fish oil and glucosamine with chondroitin can help lessen the pain. Leg pain is also a symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency - called intermittent claudication. Monthly B12 injections is too far apart in my opinion. I take sublingual (under the tongue) B12 spray daily. Extremely effective and pain free! Vitamin B12 is only one of the many deficiency states found with hypothyroidism. Vitamin D deficiency is found in 98% with autoimmune thyroid disease (90% of adult hypothyroidism is autoimmune - Hashimoto's Thyroiditis). Vitamin D deficiency causes bone pain as well.
