Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You are going in the right direction. Causes like hyperthyroidism, renal artery stenosis (by dopplar studies or MRI), abnormal kidney function (by kidney function tests), hyper function of adrenals, Cushing’s syndrome, abnormal liver function etc should be ruled out. At times no cause of high blood pressure can be found and this is termed as essential hypertension. What you can do is reduce salt intake, take alcohol with caution or better avoid, quit smoking if you do and reduce total calorie intake in a day. Consult a good cardiologist. You may need to take medications on a regular basis. Hope this helps. Take care!
I to had uncontrolled blood pressure. It took a long time for my blood pressure to stabilize. I had to cut out salt and caffeine and drink plenty of water and much bed rest, not to mention that your blood pressure being that high gives you anxiety attacks which raises blood pressure as well. So I also had to try relaxation exercises Deep breathes and prayer/meditation. Unless I was getting up to the bathroom I was in bed all day. I had a seizure at 195/120 I had just delivered a baby and had eclampsia. But afterward it took me months to get better. I too almost fainted and realized that it could have been one of my meds, Check the side effects of Procardia that medicine drove me coo coo, made me dizzy and I almost fainted. Also with bed rest lay on your left side and watch everything you eat, no eating out. if you didn't cook it and are unaware of the salt/sodium content don't eat it. Mrs. Dash and other salt substitute should be used. I also took 2 baby aspirin per day and I ate a banana everyday. i heard that potassium helps. I really hope that you feel better soon, I know how it can be. Keep me informed =)
