any similar experiences?

just got back from doc who wants me to take a stress test because there was a slight change in my ekg. however ive had upper right arm pain that lasted for about a year. then it switched to my left arm. pain is worse at night when i lie on either side or even on my back. i also have had some occurrence of my hands falling asleep at nght.  leg and hip muscles are pretty stiff in the morning. doc didnt seem to concerned about my ekg cause i have no chest pain or breathing difficulty but still wants the stress test which is fine with me. also, my arm pain isnt throughout the day. i have a pretty intense job (high school teacher) and find myself tensing my muscles in class frequently and im trying to cut down on that. i feel pretty good now. at its worst, im fatigued, achy arms and hands. any ideas? i know this is vague and general. thanks i wish you all well.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
One possibility is ankylosing spondylitis. Pain worse when sitting or lying down and feels better with movement is usually caused by ankylosing spondylitis. If the vertebrae are involved then pinched nerves can cause numbness. This is a genetic condition. Medicines, physiotherapy, exercises and drugs to suppress immunity are the mainstay of treatment.
A back pain that is worse on lying down or felt mainly on lying down can also be due to a tumor within the spinal cord. It can also be due to compression of spinal nerves. Both can cause numbness of arms. A neurological examination can pinpoint the site. A CT scan or a MRI will be surely required.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
