Hi,
How are you?
Sometimes drinking water too quickly causes the water to enter the wind pipe instead of the food pipe and this causes choking. Please be rest assured the water did not go to the lungs so it is fine.
Please remember to drink water slowly and it is common to get a strained feeling in the chest afterwards.

Treatment includes anti anxiety medicines(available on prescription by a physician).
Secondly,it can be GERD(gastroesophageal reflux disease).Try raising the head end of the bed by 2-3 blocks and take soft, bland diet for a few days. Also take your dinner 2 hrs prior to bedtime. You can also take antacids like Mylanta and prilosec and observe for any change in symptoms.
Other conditions that can cause feeling of choking are laryngo-tracheitis,epiglottitis,tracheo-esophageal fistula, obstructive sleep apnea and Huntigston’s disease.Pls get yourself evaluated by a physician or ENT specialist for these.
