PAIN ON MY RIGHT SIDE, JUST BELOW RIBS ?????

I am 57 years old, I drink beer once or twice a month ( 5 beers at most). About 10 years ago I went for a endoscopy and the GI doctor said, I had Barrett's esophagus. I don't smoke and try to eat right, but like everything it doesn't always happen. For the last year I have been waking up in the morning with a pain on my right side just below my ribs. I told my PCP about it and he didn't know what it was, so he sent me to my GI doctor. I went for a ultrasound of my stomach and they said, I had a non-alcoholic fatty liver. And told me to watch what I eat. Then I went for my endoscopy July 15th and the doctor said, I had some inflammation of my stomach. I asked him about the pain on my right side but he never gave me an answer. I have noticed that the pain on my right side in the morning occurs a lot when I eat a snack the night before, but I always leave 3 to 5 hours before I go to bed. What could be causing this pain ? It is driving me nuts ! I have thought it might be IBS, or a painful gas pocket, a spasm, ulcer, constipation, I do go to the bathroom when I wake up  (normal). Stress ? I am getting no answers ! I did also notice that when I go to bed at night my stomach makes a kind of URP sound every now and then before I fall asleep. If anyone has any idea what this might be or what might be causing it your input would be greatly appreciated.

Update:  the gastroenterologist had them do an ultrasound and found a small hiatal hernia.  Knowing that doesn't stop the pain.
I will have to talk to my surgeon about what to do.

Have they checked your gall bladder?

It sounds like your liver may be fatty or inflamed! But the pain would be upper right quadrant! I would get your rbc and wbc count as well as AST, ALT bloodtest checked to check your liver enzyme count! A fatty liver can only  lead to worse, the only other thing i can think of is gallstones? They misdiagnosed mine for 24 years saying it was ibs and all in head, I presume you had an ultrasound on liver, as or just stomache , or complete upper gi series ultrasound! Hopefully its just gas.  You may need a lower gi series test to be on safe side! Stick to a protein shake at night instead of snack and see if that helps! You are really not suppost to eat after 7pm! If stool is black or extremelly light, That would be of concern!

I have a fatty liver too and it hurts...upper right quadrant pain every day.  I find that taking Milk Thistle just a little before going to bed helps.  I also take it during the day since it says to take one before each meal.

Milk Thistle is a liver detox - it helps me tremendously - takes most of the pain away.

I've had this pain for so many years now that I had a CT scan last week and am waiting for the results.  On the down side, doctor says my liver function can affect my kidneys.  So I'm thinking this pain in my side is from my liver, doctor says it's my kidney.  We'll see who's right sometime soon.

I hope the Milk Thistle works for you.  Essiac is also a good remedy as it contains "bitters" which are also good for the liver.  I take Swedish bitters mixed in a glass of water also to help detox my liver - I can't stand that pain! -  I sincerely hope my remedies work for you, too.

Best wishes
