serious pain, nausia no diagnosis

Last  night I had a episode of extreme pain and nausia. It started in my right upper chest and would move to my back high between my shoulder and spine and even my side. I had a similar incodent 2 months ago that was treated as a cardiac condition and went away after pain meds and 2 days in the hospital. This time I held off for 12 hours until the pain got excruaiting this morning. I was treated in the E.R. with pain meds and had blood tests and Xray but nothing was found and no diagnosis was given. The doc was thinking maybe gall stones but said the pain area was too vast to really fit. He then got some emergencies and lost all interest and said I could stay over night for pain control and maybe a ultra sound in the morning if they could fit me in. I did,'t feel this would give me an answer so I left undiagnosed. This pain was unbearable evan after morphine and it scares me that it could happen again as the pain started subsiding before I left the E.R. Has anyone else had this situation?

Thanks lucy. The more I reasd up, the more it seems like gall stones. The ER doc wouldn't even specualte without a ultra sound and was very dissapointed in him. He said I could stay overnight for pain control or check out and when I pressed him for a recomendation, he said nothing. The pain in my upper r chect, side and back was a 9-10 and I was a pucking fool. What do you suggest I do when it happens again?

I beg to differ that gallbladder pain is not vast it can make you feel like you are going to die attacks normally last a few hours but in cases where there is infection or obstruction of the bile duct or passing of a stone pain can last much longer.
See your regular dr who can arrange for an abdo ultrasound this will confirm whether or not gallstones are the problem.
Also gallbladder pain nearly always happens at night
