sleep apnea

i have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.....overall,mild obstructive apnea, becoming severe in rem sleep with mild oxygen desaturation.I used a nose prong (resimed) for three weeks no problems at all, then developed dermatitus in and below my nose, sore and unsightly.I tried a mouth splint ,with lots of adjustments, had facial and ear pain.My doctor advised perservering with c-pap,but also adding the apnea was not bad....total rdi=12.1/hr.I am going on a cruise next week, and I am worried.I am wearing tennis balls sowed into a t-shirt,worse in supine rem.I tried half and full c-pap masks, very comfortable, but rash persisted.Hope you can advise.......regards Vivien

There is a website for "sleepapnea.com." There is good information about this condition and sleep apparatus to assist breathing during sleep.

Only question I have is: Are you a heavy sleeper? My husband stops breathing 90 times in an hour (yes 90!!!) when he lies on his back and only like 20 times on his side and he first tried the tennis balls and fell asleep on them - literally. He has a CPAP, so unfortunately if the tennis balls don't work I don't have any other suggestions for you.
