sleep issues

just the other night my boyfriend was over and he went to sleep fine, remembering who i was, but about an hour after he went to sleep, he woke up and for about 2 hours was yelling at me about multiple things and calling me by his exgirlfriends name who had cheated on him over 4 years ago. he was still yelling at me about things that were about me and my life, but still calling me by his exgirlfriends name. i finally got him to lay down and he immediately fell asleep and when i woke up the next day, he didn't remember anything that had happened at all.
could it be night terrors? or something more than that? this is the only time this has happened, he said he used to talk in his sleep and he screamed once in his sleep not remembering but other than that, nothing more.
is it something that he should have checked out?
thanks.

I would recommend getting a better understanding of his situation before spending more nights together. Some people are actually dangerous when they act out bad dreams. My normally docile father in times past has injured my older brother's neck, took my infant brother out "to the park" while asleep at 4am, punched out a window and light fixture on the ceiling, and attempted to get a gun when he thought my brother and I coming home late were intruders. My mother had to be a saint.

I would have this evaluated. Get a sleep study done. Sounds to me like he was sleepwalking. People do all kinds of weird things. I've heard of people cooking complete meals while sleepwalking. This may happen more than either of you know if you don't sleep together every night. Also, if it is something like sleepwalking, it tends to happens when people are under more stress.
