Notice odor from stool and gas after hospitalization...?

Hi!

At the end of August. I was in a severe car accident. Lost control of my car and managed to wedge it underneath a semi. Alcohol nor speeding was involved.

Anywho...

I was hospitalized and in a medically induced coma for 8 days. A traumatic brain injury and torn deltoid. Right side of my skull was severely fractured and surgically repaired w/ metal plates.

I have noticed since I was released from the hospital that my stool and gas has a very rotten smell. Prior of the accident, it was always odorless. Now its more embarassing than anything. I always recognized that I have (had) a terrible sense of smell to begin with...for me to notice, says alot....to me and Ideas or clues? My bathroom visits were monitered and documented. Was given a stool softener when I wouldnt produce for hours or a day.

Please help, if possible. Will be talking to my doctor about it, next visit. I would like to have an idea or some knowledge when confronting someone with an MD in his name :)

Current Meds:
Amantadine 30 mg
Zoloft 25 mg
Ambien 10mg as needed
Restoril (sp?) (sleep aid) 30 mg as needed

Meds can affect the way your body Reacts but the fluids that they put you on could have messed wih things in a good way kindof. When I go in for an infusion I can taste it when it is in my vein. It's wierd what your body can do but your levels may be high or off in certain areas. I don't know if anybody else has noticed but our diet has a role in that too. Best wishes

I agree that a probiotic will probably fix this problem.  You can add Metamucil if you are still having any issues with constipation.  Ignoring constipation will lead to other problems.

Any other GI symptoms such as diarrhea?

If not, then you might just need to take probiotics such as acidophilis tablets. They will help repopulate your gut with natural flora and will help with digestion.
