I think your jumping to conclusions due to anxiety over symptoms.  If pain and cough persist, seek medical care from your PCP.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The pain between shoulder blades in the back could be due to acidity or duodenal ulcer or due to dilated bile duct with involvement of pancreas or a combination of either. You can try over the counter antacids. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals and eat frequent small meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, smoking, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees.
If you have cough either it is due to reflux or due to infection. The pain can be due to pleurisy or inflammation of lining of lungs. It can also be muscular pain due to coughing too much.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Take care!

Failing lungs could cause your back to ache, but it's more likely from coughing for a week. Treat the cough, see a doctor and if you are a smoker...STOP!
