Oh, by the way, I forgot to say that my husband is a 39 year old insulin dependant diabetic. He is 6 feet tall and only weighs 135 pounds. Im sure its alot less now. He is extremely tired and I am at a loss.
Hello,
In my earlier post,I have mentioned some of the common causes of vomitings and nausea. As you have mentioned that your husband is a type-I diabetic,so possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis may be there. It is a state of absolute or relative insulin deficiency aggravated by ensuing hyperglycemia, dehydration, and acidosis-producing derangements in intermediary metabolism. http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic135.htm
Did your husband get evaluated for his blood sugar levels in the ER.If not, then pls get it done as soon as possible so as to rule out this possibility.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how your husband is doing.
Hello kindd,
Thanks for responding. My husbands blood sugar levels have been a little elevated. But that can be expected when you are ill. They have been running at about 150 to 200. It is not ketoacidosis. I am also a diabetic and know the signs. It was the first thing we had checked. I guess my main concern is that he is so weak and tired. I am at my wits end. Maybe returning to the ER for an IV to give him fluid and nutrients that he is unable to ingest is the only thing to do.
Thanks again.

Dear Peekaboo!
Sooo sorry to hear about your husbands uncomfortable situation...
I have just experienced being misdiagnosed by doctors in two different
hospitals. Was in agony..my doctor said they only found slight colitis in double contrast ct of abdomen and pelvis...but after being in the hospital for over 4 days and STILL having the same pain--and telling my doctor-He told me quote-"I"M NOT ORDERING ANYMORE TESTS!!" I was stupified! Well, I got tough with him and his associates...so he begrudgingly ordered an ENDOSCOPY( I had one 2 months earlier they said was NORMAL!!?)--and SURPRISE SURPRISE..I had a nice BIG ULCER( with little ulcerations all around it) GASTRITIS and a HIATAL HERNIA!!
I had blood coming from my stool..and was tasting blood in my mouth by the time they got the confirmation! It could have perforated etc...
So, in short---GET TOUGH with these DOCTORS!!! THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU WAIT 3 MONTHS TO SEE A SPECIALIST!! ANY INTERNIST CAN ORDER AN ENDOSCOPY, A BARIUM SWALLOW, A DOUBLE CONTRAST CT SCAN OF THE ABDOMEN AND PELVIS, AND A HIDA SCAN OF THE GALLBLADDER, PANCREAS, KIDNEYS AND LIVER!
IF THEY POO POO YOU PEEKABOO--THEN POLITELY, CALMLY BUT FIRMLY TELL THEM WHICH DO THEY THING IS CHEAPER...A MAJOR MALPRACTICE LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM AND THE HOSPITAL OR TO BE THOROUGH AND PROFESSIONAL ENOUGH TO RULE OUT ILLNESS THAT WOULD CAUSE THE SYMPTOMS YOUR HUSBAND IS HAVING.
IF THAT DOESN'T WORK--REMIND YOUR DOCTORS OF THE HYPOCRATIC OATH THAT THEY TOOK---AND THE PART WHERE THEY SWEAR TO WORK WITH THE PATIENT....IT IS THEIR FIDUCIARY DUTY--BESIDES THEIR MORAL DUTY.
DO NOT WAIT PEEKABOO---GET TOUGH!
ALL THE BEST
