A few months ago I was having attacks where I had to go to the bathroom and felt very sick, and I would start getting very light headed when I went to the bathroom, it almost felt like a panic attack. At night, I would get crazy bad heartburn feeling. Along with this, I got random all day muscle twitching. I went to the doctor, and they told me I had high calcium. I went in for more tests later, and this is how they came out:
Calcium: 10.5-10.7
PTH: 30
Urine Calcium: low/normal
Vitamin D: normal
He told me I DO NOT have hyperparathyroidism because of my normal PTH. He put me on zoloft and prilosec, and told me I had FHH..... I did some research on FFH and now I know I do not have FFH as it is hereditary and extremely rare...My doctor didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about when he told me I had it anyway.
Later on the heartburn got better, but I started getting weird flanking pains on the left side, and abdominal pains toward the left side. Before this I had a upper GI endoscopy to check for GERD. Sure enough, I had a slight case of GERD and a little redness on my esophagus. The Gastrologist said it wasn't a big deal though, as they took a Biopsy of it and said it was ok, and took me off prilosec and put me on protonix.
I recently started getting muscle twitching again (before taking the protonix) and just don't know what to do anymore. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist in a month, but am worried that they wont find the underlying cause of my high calcium. I have read parathyroid.com from top to bottom but with my PTH, I am still unconvinced that I have a parathyroid problem.
I'm 21, caucasian, male. I don't smoke, and I don't drink. I'm 6', 170lb. I weight lift, eat well, and am in good health and shape. Any input would be appreciated.
