I'm miserable: rubbing sensation inside vagina post surgery

Dear Dr.,

I am so desperate for help. In April of this year I had a&p repairs w/ mesh and a sling and a perineoplasty. Anyway since my surgery I feel like there is tissue right inside the vaginal opening that is rubbing and driving me crazy. In addition, I also have a rubbing feeling up higher inside the vagina when I bend over to pick something up or tie my shoe etc. I have been back to my urogyno. and he said everything inside looks perfect and he couldn't imagine what I could be feeling. He also said he's never had another patient with these symptoms after surgery. So he referred me to a physical therapist who specializes in the pelvic floor. I've seen her once so far and she said some of my pelvic muscles are very tight and perhaps this could be causing my discomfort. But again. she has never had a patient with this problem either. And I am very skeptical that this therapy is going to help my condition.

I am extremely depressed over this because I've been dealing with the cystocele and rectocele for four years and this year I finally decide to have the surgery and I still feel like there is something in my vagina almost all the time.

Can you please help me?

Jessica

I had TVT-O Bladder Sling Surgery over 2 yrs ago, still can't have intercourse because it's so very uncomfortable. I feel sore inside  and a very irritated feeling every time I attempt this. Anyone out there with this problem?
Thanks!

Hi. I had a large rectocele repair last year and I felt some of the pain that you are feeling. One reason my doctor told me was because the mesh wasn't exactly flat inside of me so I have a ridge that rubs but everything is healed correctly. That maybe what yours has done. You might want to ask when you go back to your therapy or your doctor.. I hope  this helps.

I had posted a comment a few days ago but it never shoed up but I hope you do get a second opinion as SUECAT says.  We do know our bodies and I have had mesh repairs with nothing sticking me as you say happens to you.  I went to a physical therapist but not and it was helpful but for sure if you are feeling something poking you perhaps it is the mesh.  What kind was used?  I have had 4 operations in the past 4 years including a TOT, cystocele repair, rectocele repair, ligaments redone and sigmoid colon reseciton and every time I get a copy of the surgical report and then ask questions.  Do not give up and also go to pelvicfloor.com.  There are a lot of horro stories there but some good info too.  Take care.

GET A SECOND OPINION. I AGONIZED OVER HAVING A HYSTERECTOMY AND AM HAVING PROBLEMS NOW. MY DR. SAYS THE SAME THING. BLAMES IT ON A PULLED BACK MUSCLE OR A UTI.  WE KNOW OUR BODIES BETTER THAN ANY ONE ELSE. FIND OUT IF THIS CAN BE CORRECTED OF IF YOU JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. DON'T SUFFER NEEDLESSLY. I HOPE THIS IMPROVES FOR YOU. THERE IS NOTHING MORE DEPRESSING THAN HAVING A PROBLEM AND NO ONE ELSE SEEMS TO UNDRESTAND.
