problem with graft

I had Rectocele graft
When the Doctor did the surgery he some how went through my colon. I was very sick after surgery stayed in hospital 3 days. I had trouble having bowel movement. I had infection and sick for 2 weeks. I was telling the DR. that something was pulling and hurting my tail bone and worse with bowel movement. He looked in my rectum and said the arm of the graft was through the colon and stitched to my tail bone he cut the arm in half. He said he was sorry he did not realize he had pushed it through the colon.  I still need to have the graft removed from both sides of my colon. I have cramps, my cycle is different. I’m afraid now, what do you thing I should do? Who do you think would be the best Doctor to see for repair? Can this be repaired? Can I have the graft completely removed? Please help

Sorry to read of your complication.  Injury to the rectum is a known complication associated with the use of posterior mesh and most often seen with mesh kits that use trocars to place the mesh.  A rectal exam is often done after the passage of each trocar to check for this complication.

If mesh material is still present in the rectum, it should be removed. Depending on the findings the entire mesh may or may not need to be completely removed.   This should be done by an experienced surgeon.  If your physician is not experienced in the removal of mesh I would suggest you seek a surgeon in your area that is.  Most often this will be a Urogynecologyist or a gynecologist with extensive experience.  You may try a physician associates with one of the following sources.

I have seen one gynecologist He said he could trim off and hopfully the skin will grow over.
but they may have to remove that part of colon. and something about using some leg muscle to rebuild. i dont like the sound of that. I dont feel good about him at all. so i canceled surgery.
