Dear Kurt,
There is an entity in men referred to as pelvic floor myalgia.  This is a condition with symptoms including sensation of pain and/or burning discomfort in the perineum (crotch) which may accompany some urinary symptoms such as urinary urgency.  The patient may be worked up for problems such as prostatitis ( inflammation or infection of prostate), without any such finding at the end.  The presumed cause is the inflammation and subsequent spasm of the muscles in the pelvic floor and perineum.  This leads to the symptoms described above.
The usual treatment includes the use of anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, sitz baths in lukewarm water and avoidance of activities that worsen the symptoms, such as bicycle riding or horse back riding or any straddling activities for long periods of time.
I hope this helps.
