Has anyone got any experience of the South Beach Diet?

hi all

I decided I wanted to lose weight at Christmas. I've been ill with an underactive thyroid and put on about 20 pounds over the last 12 months. I hadn't really noticed it creeping on till christmas because I'd been so ill I was just in a bit of a daze! But since then I've been really paying attention to what I eat and willing the scales to go in the other direction but without much success yet. At least I seem to have stopped gaining.

I don't want to go on a diet as such because I don't really believe in them but I'm starting the South Beach Diet today because that seems to be more about  healthy eating generally and I'm excited about possibly seeing a nice big drop in phase 1 over the first 2 weeks.

Can anyone else share any experiences they've had with South Beach?

I'm also interested in anyone else's experiences with hypothyroidism and trying to lose weight. I'm on medication and my blood tests are now at the upper end of what they should be but I still dont feel 100% so I'm still on a bit of a mission for a solution to that.

oooppsss I would maybe start it when you get back from padstow.
Nope its not easy and the thought of having to think about what I eat and drink and what my activity levels have been like --- every day for the rest of my life scares me but its the only way to be healthy and fit and ultimatley happy with myself.

I think it is lovely you have a hubby who cooks for you :) x

well thanks anyway for replying whatawoman! it's by a cardiologist and for the first two weeks you don't eat any starchy foods, fruit or dairy (except low fat cheese) and apparently you can drop 8-10 lbs in 2 wks, which I would love to do. My adorable husband however doesn't understand the concept. Honey I'm on a diet and I'm not going to eat any starch for two weeks I said, well done darling he replies and then goes and cooks me a lovely dinner with a big pile of potatoes! I don't think he really gets it and I didn't have the heart to turn down the meal he'd prepared so lovingly! So I've blown it on day one! Then he reminds me we're going on holiday next Friday - to Padstow where we are booked in to 3 beautiful Rick Stein eateries over the course of a week! So I guess I'm not sticking to the regime that strictly! Oh dear, it's not easy this dieting lark is it?
