Can't stop overeating

I'm very new to all of this, so bare with me. For about a year now, I have been binge eating when I am stressed. At the time, I don't even think about the negative affects it has on me, but afterwords, I feel so overweight and I begin to hate myself for doing it.

I was wondering if anyone else is willing to share their experience with overeating, and possibly be a support for me for when I get the urge to do it and/or after I have done it and maybe things I can do when I get the urge to overeat.

I would also like to know the negative health effects it is having on my body.

Thank you.

Please consider this post Gender Neutral!
I'm fairly new in this forum, but

Here are my ideas and suggestions and you need not reply.

1. We are taught from the time we're babies to have milk, food or a soother in our mouth when we cry. It is a learnt behavior and we respond in a similar way as adults. You have Holistic Master Practitioners in your area specializing in stress management  , eating disorders, emotional re-balancing, weight issues. Search" Dr. Patricia Carrington", "Carol Look" in N.Y and N.J. area, they're tops in their fields. I studied under them. (I live in Ontario)
2. You will probably become diabetic! Your body cannot cope with all the frequent and excessive sugar overload for too long. To protect you from sure death your survival default mechanism, brings you to a pre-diabetic state first, where you will feel the symptoms. And shortly afterwards if you continue this you surely develop diabetes. Sorry to be so blunt . It's the truth though. And the "side effect" is more weight gain.
3. Most likely it is beyond your control, so don't hate yourself for "failing".
You probably have what we call a psychological reversal -which is a negative "belief" in your subconscious mind- that will not allow you to follow through with what you need to do.
So my suggestion is to consider a Holistic Therapist as above, to clear things up for you, so you can move on with your life.  It will be an amazing healing experience and probably your best investment in you health!  Very reasonable charges and extremely effective. I'm very familiar with the process. And I see the results all the time.
4. On a different note, checkout Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. One of my top recommended Health Food items because of all its great health benefits. It is also the only oil that does not get stored as fat in the body. It goes directly into energy and it also increases metabolism so one can loose weight consuming it! There's tons of info on the net.

You may want to check my other postings for other helpful info.

Thank you for the help. I've posted on a wall for eating disorders, but no one has replied. I think it is terrible how medications have those kinds of effects...I too have been on anti depressants because I do get depressed from time to time, but I've stopped taking them. It got quite expensive and I don't feel comfortable putting that kind of stuff into my body (though I will put terrible carbs in!!!) I've tried to do a food diary, but i tend to forget to write in it, or feel so guilty to write in when I binge. I am definitely one of those closet eaters, so I will only eat like crazy when no one is around and no one has any idea about it. I have a few roomates and no one has mentioned anything.

I'm trying my best just to buy healthy things and bringing good things to work. I also want to try to drink more water- I've heard this is very good. I tend to binge on sweet things, sometimes the odd salty snack, but sugar is the worst for me. I will keep trying though!

Hello, do you suffer from depression?  Did yhou find any help on the Eating Disorders Forum?

I am on an anti-depressant that makes me crave carbohydrates.  I put on masses of weight when I was on it before, so stopped the medication.  For a year I was depression free, lost my appetite, and lost all the extra weight.

Then the depression came back with a vengence, so rather than suffer with that, I went back on the same anti-depressant.  Now, it is well known fact that anti-depressant medication can make you put on weight.  In my case it is this carbohydrate craving, which makes serotonin, which depressives lack.  My body says eat it, you will feel better!!
Now the weight is back where it was.  As I am old it does not matter so much, but I reckon the cravinbg is as bad as that for nicotine or alcohol - neither of which I have ever felt the need for.
Firstly we have to stop buying the fattening food, or go out and eat lots of junk food.  What type of food are you overeating?
I am trying to be strong, because being overweight makes me unhappy, but, then again, rather that than depression.

Stress does make some people eat, whereas, others do the opposite, and can't eat.  Try not to worry too much, although easier said than done, I know.

I am sure you know too much fat is bad for the body as it can lead to high blood pressure and it furs up your insides.  If you can eat sensibly, that will help.  Says me!!  I am not a good example.

Keep in touch, and perhaps you will find others who can help.  Believe me you are certainly not alone.  Don't feel guilty.  After all it is your body, so only you can do something about it.
Willpower is very difficult, I know.  I felt good yesterday that I did not buy lots of cakes ettc, but some grapes and apples.  It is a start.

Good luck.
