The blood rushes to your legs when you stand and because of the sunburn some blood vessels are ruptured making it extremely painful to stand in One place, but once you begin moving the blood begins to circulate easing the pain. Sitting and lying down are the best positions to be in due to gravity. My advice is to take an anti-inflammatory, such as ibuprofen or niacin, to ease pain and swelling, also you should run a COOL bath and soak for an hour every 6 hours and apply aloe (spray-on to avoid having to rub the burn) when you get out. Try to stay off your feet and keep them elevated. You should be back to normal within 5-10 days. If not contact medical help.

Are you any better?  I have seen 9 posts for this problem under various forums, but no one knows what causes this.  Has anyone recovered completely from this?  I know at least one of the patients did.

If the burn is that severe, you probably need to be at the ER to get evaluated.  In the meantime, use pure aloe vera gel to help ease the pain, along with ibuprofen (if you can take it.)  In addition, drink lots of fluids, especially orange juice.  OJ has lots of vitamins in it that need to be replaced.  If you're cramping, you are most likely dehydrated as well as being burned.  Also, keep the skin moisturized with a good moisturizer for when things start peeling.  (Lubriderm is one of the best.

I know sunburn can be really hard to deal with. Maybe your cramps is from your body needing water since your sunburnt. I am not a dr. The best thing is to see your dr to see if anything can be done and to make sure everything is ok.

Hi and Welcome to the Pain Management Clinic and let you know how glad we are that you have found us here. I need to be sure that you understand that there are NO Doctors at all on this site. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients and use our personal knowledge and expertise that we have learned from our own experiences to help each other.

I'm so very sorry about your severe sunburn. Living near Phoenix, AZ I definitely understand the dangers of a severe sunburn.

Have you checked with your Dr. yet? If not I hope that you will go see a Dr. quickly as this sunburn might have done more damage than you think. It's nothing to mess around with.

If have already seen him what did he say about your burn? Did he run any tests to see if your nerves or muscles have in some way been affected?

If you don't get the answers that you need, don't hesitate to get a second opinion from someone else.

I hope that  you will keep us updated on what you learn and how you are doing...Sherry
