I hear you- the one new thing I learned in the L & D class was that you can't push with your tongue sticking out... seriously... and we used it too! During labor I found myself pushing and unable to stop, and DH yelled as he ran for the midwife "stick your tongue out!"
As for infant care, we were both so clueless we found ourselves apologizing to our 3-hour old daughter for being such hapless parents as we struggled to get her diaper changed for the first time. (of course now I can do it blindfolded while she's running from one room to another.)
Thanks Chinesebones. I am determined to take just Breast feeding and infant care only. I am pretty familiar with Labor and delivery process so not not worried about tht but have no knowledge of baby needs...:)
I took two classes at the hospital where I had dd. One was a four-week class with dh where we learned about childbirth, labor options, infant care and cpr. I read the Bradley method book but opted to take the hospital class instead and was glad I did. We got to meet some of the nurses, hear about the actual options available instead of "your hospital may..." and toured the L & D ward so we had a good comfort level when the day came. Of course, you usually can get a tour without taking the class.
I also took a breastfeeding class- I can't remember exactly when, but I was massively pregnant. I was pretty spaced out by that point and some of the details escaped me, but I was very glad to have taken the class if only to get to know the (wonderful) lactation consultant beforehand. Thus we already had a level of comfort with each other before I was actually topless in front of her struggling to get dd fed!
I am not taking any classes. We had to do them in nursing school. I know probably going would be the best to "refresh" my memory as I am not an OB nurse but I don't think I am going to take any. I am thinking of having my husband take a CPR class. Lamaze classes are just to help you learn how to breath during labor to help decrease the pain and give you other ways to focus so you don't think about the pain. They also teach you about the whole birthing process and what to expect. Check at your local YMCA or YWCA....they may have classes as well as any planned parenthood clinics in your area. They may have infant care classes.
I just want to take that and want to take infant care lass but my hospital doesnt offer it so not sure if I will be able to take it. I have no idea about Lamaze classes as to what their purpose is and what they teach in them...what about you?
I think either way will be fine. I don't think 33 weeks is too late. Like you said you may be able to remember more that way. Are you taking any other classes?
