hmm well I'd say just follow your intuition. because Grey was jaundiced I've had to take him outside from the day he came home from the hospital (I think he was 5 days old) for short exposure to direct sunlight....so if he can handle that (and it was under doctor's orders) then I would imagine your little one would be fine if you covered her up completely and avoided going out during the "danger hours". I plan to start bringing the kiddos to my parents' house next weekend and Grey will be 2 1/2 weeks...and I plan to start swimming again with Kahlan and Grey will be put under a uv-filtering tent with a hat and some protective clothing on....but only for about 15 minutes. I think letting them have fresh air and a bit of filtered sunlight is healthy but it all depends on how you feel. I didn't bring Kahlan outside until she was closer to 2 months but then by 7 months we had her in a boat wearing sunscreen and protective clothing lol.
I think Limonada was right that the current accepted practice is not before 1 month but with Grey's history with jaundice I plan to do it closer to 3wks like I said...so...sorry if that wasn't helpful LOL but I would say as long as she's protected sufficiently it's okay in small amounts (no more than 20 minutes and NO direct sun).
oh and as far as taking her "out" I would say wait as long as possible...I won't bring my little one to the store until closer to 2 months just because of all the sicknesses people carry about....and the only place he'll visit until then is the doctor's office and his grandparents' houses, which are only about 20-30 minute drives away.
I never knew there were restrictions, and have been bringing my baby out from almost day 1. She loves it outside, and we go for walks in the stroller, and we've also been to Target about 100 times. She is 3 weeks old today.
I was really cautious about bringing my first out of the house because she was a winter baby and born during flu season, but with this baby she's been out & about since week 2. I do make sure we use lots of hand sanitizer and keep her at a distance from strangers and kids and really regulate her temperature so she's not too cold or hot...She is 4 weeks old now and has been to all her sister's activities, gymnastics, swimming, sprinkler park, violin lessons, etc...
Well, Alexander was jaundiced too so he was out and about from the second day we got home from the hospital. He was 4 days old when we went to the doctors and then the hospital for the first time. Then we went to the hospital every day for..like 4 days. We went out to lunch while waiting for his bilirubin results at 5 days old and over to his Grandparents house for dinner at 5 days too. The first time I tok him out out, we went to Target and he was 8 days old then. It was too soon for me but he did fine. He's been out and about a lot really. I don't let people get to close to him or touch him though. But, this past weekend was my family reunion andthat we did not go to, it was outside and the weather worried me and all those people. This weekend is a wedding which we are also not going to because it is outside too. But at the same time on August 7 and 8 is my husbands family reunions, which are just as far away as my reunion but both places have houses with air condintioning. So we are going to those, and
staying overnight in a hotel too. I'm nervous and excited at the same time lol. I think you just have to trust your instincts, you'll know when its right to take him outside and start going places. Just don't let anyone talk you into going somewhere before you're ready (that's what happened with me and target the first time..we've since been back to target and done great). The thing is, if you aren't 100% comfortable and you're nervous and upset then your baby will feed off your emotions and it will be an unpleasant experience for both of you and then you won't want to go out again. Trust yourself and take it slow whenever you do go out, don't let anyone rush you around the store or wherever.
