Anne Rice leaves Christianity
Legendary author Anne Rice has announced that she’s quitting Christianity.

The “Interview with a Vampire” author, who wrote a book about her spirituality titled "Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession" in 2008, said Wednesday that she refuses to be “anti-gay,” “anti-feminist," “anti-science” and “anti-Democrat.”

Rice wrote, “For those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian ... It's simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.”

Rice then added another post explaining her decision on Thursday:

“My faith in Christ is central to my life. My conversion from a pessimistic atheist lost in a world I didn't understand, to an optimistic believer in a universe created and sustained by a loving God is crucial to me," Rice wrote. "But following Christ does not mean following His followers. Christ is infinitely more important than Christianity and always will be, no matter what Christianity is, has been or might become.”

We all need to support each other in our walk with the Lord. That is so true. The devil will do whatever he can to cause division and strife among the believers because he knows how strong we are united. If he can get us to fight amongst ourselves then he's won.
I do understand how it feels to feel condemend by others. My daughter sure understands this. But how I wish we all could just see the value we each have. Jesus said we all are important and can't live and do God's work without each other. The hand can't tell the foot it's not needed. We all are the body of Christ. We all are needed and should support each other.

Here's the thing.... That is an excuse people like to use when something is not going their way. Everyone will offend someone at some point and at some time, so she should have been keeping her eyes on the Lord. Its like people are just hoping someone will do or say something so they can use that "widely accepted" verbiage of "you offended me."

If we keep our eyes on man we will be disappointed. EVERY TIME.

It says in His word that man will disappoint so why do people even go there. This is another ploy the devil uses, getting people "offended."

That is why God told us Jesus is our example, not man.

And, I've never heard of her either.

We need to support each other in our walk with the lord, as only fellow christians can do. I agree.

That's why it's so important that we keep our eyes on the Lord and not each other. We have to put our faith in HIM. If we put our faith in others we will be greatly disappointed and disalusioned because we all are sinners and and fall short of the mark.
We had a pretty big pastor here who fell and it nearly tore apart the church. But they ralied because they realized they could not put all their faith in one person or any person but only God Himself.

I've had bad experiences with churches too. I've tried them all. Many were very disappointing because they were more interested in their man made doctrines or rules than the grace of God.

The church I go to now preaches straight from the bible but reinforces the grace of God and leaves us to do our own bible studies on our own.

Of course it's possible to be a Christian and never go to church or hang out with other Christians but doing so sets us up for attacks from the devil and leaves us weak and vulnerable. The bible tells us to not forsake meeting together because there's strength in numbers and we need each other. We are the body of Christ, after all, and the hand cannot tell the foot that it's not needed. We all are needed!

I think it is sad because she is missing so much. I understand that she feels condemned by christians because of her beliefs. I mean, that is all in the intrepetation of the book, but our walk with God is a personal one. So while I can understand her on one hand, she is really missing out on so much. I dont know what to think sometimes either, but to quit christians is a really big step. I wont get into the rights and wrongs because that would be assuming that I had all the answers and I dont. I just hope that God will show her that all christians are not bad, condemning and judgmental which is what she seems to think. Must have had some bad experiences for sure. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory, comes to mind.

Sorry, I probably did read that wrong or read it too fast. I just remembered reading about this before and had gathered that when she had said she had left Christianity I assumed she left Christ too.
Here's the dilema. Being a Christian means being a Christ follower. So what is she quiting? The church? A particular church? Or all churches? Shortly after announcing quiting Christianity she praised the Lutheran church for ordaining gay pastors.

She can't have it both ways. She can't serve two masters. Either you believe in Jesus' teachings or you don't. The bible says homosexuality is a sin. It's in the Old Testament AND the New Testament. People constantly misunderstand that we can love the person (as God does) but hate the sin. The only reason why we hate the sin is because we know it will eventually destroy the person, if not here on earth then after when they have to face God and the judgement day.
It does make me wonder her commitment to begin with. No one knows but her, of course, whether she was truly born again at some point. Jesus said anyone who puts their hand to the plow and looks back is not fit for the kingdom.

Sadly, Christians are again misunderstood for choosing to follow the (the whole) Word of God. I don't agree that Christians are anti anything but sin, whatever Anne Rice wants to call it. Science is not a sin if it searches for truth. We simply can't serve two masters, as Our Lord Jesus Christ told us. We will either hate the one and love the other, or vice versa. We all have to choose which way we wish to follow in life. It seems like Anne Rice clearly chose one way over the other, that's her God-given right, and no one will take it from her. However, making it public, after achieving her popularity, is questionable, because some may blindly follow her public action.
We see it all the time.

Actually, she is not turned off by Jesus Christ, per her article it is the christians that turned her off. She has not given up her lord, just his followers. Did I not read that right?

I heard about this! To go her whole life as a Christian and then renounce it in her later years is scary to say the least! I mean, she's already 69 years old.

See how sneaky the devil is? He is very busy today trying to destroy as many people as he can before Christ returns, especially Christians because he hates Jesus.

Can you imagine how he is dancing around in joy now knowing he managed to get such a well known person?

How in the world can she say she can't be a Chrisitan because it's anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-scientist? First off, it's not anti-scientist. The bible is a historical book and full of truth. As for anti-feminist, Jesus was pretty radical in his day and accepted women followers and treated them with respect.
Yes, the bible says perverted sex is wrong but again it's the sin that's wrong, not the person. God always loves the person, He just says not to do certain things. And He promises to help us overcome temptations and to reveal the truth to those who are truly seeking it. So, if we have questions or don't understand something we only have to ask God to help us understand. I wonder if she ever did that or if she just started to live the secular life and what she saw around her rather than the spiritual life.
There is a spiritual realm out there that's even more real than what we see around us.Hard to believe, but it's true! Because what we see around us is here today and gone tomorrow but God and His angels are forever and our spirits live forever too.

How sad and tragic that this woman concentrated more on what the world was telling her than what God is telling us!
