Thanks, puts things back to reality for me.
I know all this, but sometimes you just want to hear someone say, "oh yeah, that happened to me and I delivered that day" haha I know better. Today I've been having alot of contractions and alot of rectal pressure. I know I can go anytime or walk around like this for a few weeks. Crazy how you watch for every little sign. LOL But it's good to read these forums and know that I'm not the only one so anxious.
Thanks again and best of luck to everyone :o)
Hi There,
Sadly, dilation and effacement don't really tell you much about when you will deliver. I don't really know why they even bother checking women so much for that. There is nothing really 'text book' about labor and delivery but doctors still try to pretend that there is. I think it just sets us up for disappointment most of the time. Other things can trigger contractions besides actual labor like dehydration, stress, over doing it, under doing it...
So, it can be really hard to know when the real deal is happening. My midwife gave me some good advice. When you start getting contractions do a few things to see if they continue before calling the hospital or birth center. Drink two glasses of water, If you have been sitting for a while...go for a walk. If you have been on your feet...lie down. Take a warm bath and if you feel up to it...drink a glass of wine. If the contractions keep going with a pattern after all of that...then call the hospital or birth center.
My mother and sister both delivered their kids at 38 weeks. Which is next week for me. I keep wanting to go there in my head. Like, that will be when I deliver but I keep trying to remind myself that every pregnancy is different. I am trying to tell myself I will be two weeks late. At least that way... I won't be disappointed.
Best wishes to you and good luck!
Ok so went to see the Dr. today. I am now 1 cm and 70% effaced. Anyone else experiencing this too?
