Spotting and no symptoms

I'm at 5 wk and 5 days today and haven't had ANY nausea, fatigue, frequent urination... (only sore breasts and mood swings). I know that such symptoms aren't mandatory, but it might be reassuring to have them... So far, I feel quite "normal".

Today I notice a very light, brown spotting when wiping. I also know that some spotting/bleeding in the first trimester is very common. But I can help but worrying about possible problems...

I was wondering if any have experienced spotting/bleeding at this point and it was nothing. Are you folks feeling too "sick" or "different"?

My obgy told me that if it is a healthy pregnancy there is nothing that will make you lose it, besides trauma. The majority of times that you do bleed, say after sex is because the cervix is very sensitive at this time. However in saying this, I had a miscarriage last year (blighted ovum) and there was nothing I could have done to stop that miscarriage. I am abstaining from sex till at least 3 months along. As for U/S. the probe is not supposed to go any where near the cervix, it doesn't touch the cervix at any time as it can cause shadows. I am not going to have any internal exams until well after 3 months. I really don't see the point in internal exams with all the tech we have now a days. Some may disagree.

Hi everyone.

The spotting stopped yesterday. My hubby was worried and he phoned InfoSanté (a health line to ask nurses questions). They said exactly what you ladies wrote: if it is light spotting with brown blood not accompanied by cramps, it should be OK and is no reason for concern.
In fact, I didn't feel any cramps (thank God!) and so far everything seems OK indeed.

Where I live, you don't get your first ultrasound until you are in you second trimester (unless you have a high risk pregnancy, etc), so it will take a while for me to have it done. My hubby and I are thinking in doing it privately, since the Provincial Health Care won't cover it until later. I do have an appoitnment scheduled for next week (not with my Ob-Gyn, though).

CaitlinReu, implantation bleeding is not mandatory. Because you didn't experience it, that doesn't mean it didn't implanted. Also, the ejaculation wouldn't jar the embryo, first because the semen is stopped by your cervix and may not even get too much into the uterus because the cevix is closed. I read that spotting after intercourse can be common because the cervix becomes highly vascularized and can bleed easily (such as with examination or intercourse). If you didn't have cramps, it should be OK.

I'm having a similar issue this morning, just a small amount of brown spotting, but not at the time of my usual period.  I have been feeling sick and fatigued, but only for the past couple of days, prior to that the only sign I was having was that my bras all stopped fitting.  My mom told me that with me, she didn't even have morning sickness, just the occasional bout with heartburn (but with my brother she was sick all the time for like 4 months)  I'm sure we're both fine :)
Do you mind if I add to your question, though?  One difference is I actually had sex with my man last night, and I hadn't experienced implantation bleeding, so I'm wondering if the semen could have jarred that loose?

I wouldn't be too concerned about the spotting since you said it was brown. They say if the spotting is bright red and accompanied by cramps then you should be checked out.

As far as not having any symptoms yet, you are still very early. Everything I read says morning sickness "usually" kicks in after 6 weeks. My last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage and I had every symptoms you could imagine. With this pregnancy I get waves of nausea but so far nothing compared to my last one. Every pregnancy is different and I certainly would not be hoping to be sick lol.

Do you have an ultrasound scheduled in the next few weeks?
