Sirevl,
Oh, yeah, I think you should have that shot in your back, it can provide relief for anywhere from weeks to months, sometimes you have to return for more, but it should work.  As to if I have studied these medical issues, I am not sure if you mean your specific problems or getting off meds.  But as for your general problems, I know a lot about that by virtue of personal experience, nearly a whole life of back issues, and then curiosity about my own injuries, some nursing training and work at retirement homes.  As for meds, I got off two very powerful drugs by myself, THEY were causing some symptoms outta nowhere, and this impressed the heck out of my family doc, he said he was going to tell his colleagues about me, so that's why I said it's a good thing you're going to rehab... it's difficult and better done with help.

I also understand people who are mentally and emotionally affected, where pain and health problems get so overwhelming that you don't know if you're coming or going.  That's you, and I've been to that place and it's wild.  The key is a good doc who recognizes and treats your various health issues, helps you along, you know.  I mean, how else is one to know they've got a thyroid issue!?  I didn't know until I asked my doc, "What in the world is wrong with me NOW!?!"  And he knew right away what the situation might be, narrowed it down, and off to an endocrinologist I went, and got treatment, and felt better, but it took a while, it's challenging to get replacement meds dosages right.  That is one reason I recognized you could have an endocrine problem.

As for my own back and what happened to it, I also was in a car accident, I was a passenger in a car that left the road and crashed into the snowy ravine, broke my thoracic spine in three places, discs vaporized on impact, two months in a hospital, one heck of a back brace with buckles and titanium bars from neck to upper legs, and now the pain has gone into my lumbosacral spine, really sharp sting, which my thoracic is this profound ache that sometimes stops me dead in my tracks and I have to lay down.  I take Lyrica for the sharp lower back pain, works like a miracle, and it's not an opiate.  However, I also take a mild opiate, that does help the thoracic some, but it's for my legs and feet that hurt awful from the lumbar spine trouble, plus one of my feet has old fractures in it from a fall I had.

But still, I do not get adequate pain relief, my neuro is reluctant to increase it or change it, probably for the same reasons as you have, but for crying out loud, I am NOT a young person no more, I am older, husband and I both have bad backs, I don't think we should have to suffer our last ten years like this, and sometimes it's just so very hard to go from point a to piont b, and I cry a lot over the whole situation.  SIGH.  My neuro DOES plan to do a new MRI and see what in the heck is going on with my back now, he's going to order a new back brace for me, and I HOPE he will change at least one of my medicines, the opiate, to something stronger, but we'll see.  I also been going to a psych group for many years, they give me tranqs and such, I too have felt pretty overwhelmed at times.

You said you weren't used to posting on these websites, but they truly can be quite helpful, gets people thru rough patches, folks on here generally understand what it's like to have what's wrong with a person, we post in forums where we know stuff.  When I had cancer, I found a forum on a completely diff website than this, it's just for the kind of cancer I had, and I swear, I could NOT have made it thru without that support.  So, could be there is some sort of lumbar spine support community online, to where that's all they do is help folks with your specific pain issues, and you could check out a few, until you meet some other people who are going thru what you are.

Gosh, this is too long, but I want to add that you CAN get a form of back brace at the drugstore, I sometimes put on this little elastic waist wrap I got from there, it has plastic "stays" and is held in place by velcro, specifically made for people with back problems, it's better than nothing when you have to be up and about, altho they say you shouldn't wear them too much or your muscles will atrophy.  Both myself and husband also put a heat pad, also from the drugstore, right where our backs hurt when we're watching TV, and it feels SO good.  Take you some long, hot baths, too, candles lit, my husband says it's the only time he gets real peace (from me I guess...smile).

Hi thanks for your reply. When I posted I was still panicking from the shaking. It only happened once that night and hasn't happened again. I mistyped I take a ventular meaning a puffer. When was in hospital I was on the ventilator for asthma attack. This back issues has changed my life for the worse waking up and going to sleep with severe pain has made my look at life very different. I seen ur old posts about surgery and wheelchair chance I couldn't agree more with you, never the less I am only 29 years old and there has Bren days that i would take that chance. L5s1 L4s2 with pinched nerve is a real bad constant pain. I have a cauterzone epidural injection booked in for febuary, the surgeon also has booked me another
MRI and bone scan .Ocycotin 20 mg 3 times a day and panediene forte 3 times a day is still easing the pain buy this can't be a way of life depending on pain killers, I am very fed up from this whole situation but life is hard and you have to take what has happened and deal with it, this injury has happened from 2 accidents a car accident 10 years ago and last a motor bike accident 8 months ago. Because of my age he does not want to do surgery, I have had a second opinion and another surgeon said surgery is a option, I have 2 kids both under 3 years old and it very upsetting daddy
can't play with them they way he use to. It has also stopped me from working as the pain is really bad even taking those painkillers, doctor has
offered stronger ones but I refused as I don't want to get use to stronger ,
way I look at it the pain killers when first started taking them did work better so would be only a matter of time before they too had a weaker affect. As for the xxanax I have sever depersion and been taking them for 2 years. I tried to get off them solo cold turkey after 3 days I had a seizure. Very bad experience. Cauterzone I have been told is a bandaid fix, so I am afraid that it really not fixing anything just buying time. I never have posted on these websites but now that I have agreed to epidural cauterzone I am really getting very worried, there are problems and risks with that too but it all falls down to way of life I guess, I do not want to be on pain killers anymore but saying that I can't handle the pain. Once with pray to god if my back does get better with cauterzone I am going to check in to rehab and get off all medication and never want to take nothing again, I am curious to know have you studied any of these medical issues.? Also am curious to know what has happened to you with your back and what meds are you taking and what plan you have? Would your advice be to have the cauterzone? Thank you for your time and I hope I hear from you soon

Two things:  Either your asthma is causing this, or could be the thyroid gland or another gland is the reason for your illness.  If the thyroid gland isn't working properly, you can wind up with a lot of your symptoms, including your headache, your heart beating too fast, trouble breathing, chills and sweats.  So, wouldn't it be nice if an endocrinologist specialist ran a few panels on your thyroid and maybe some of your other glands, and he finds out one of them is goofed up, and he gives you a medicine, and bingo, all of a sudden all these awful symptoms (except your lower back) went away!?!

If your asthma is creating your symptoms, you are not receiving adequate treatment of that, and so you should visit the allergy doc and perhaps ask him to do some skin tests to find out what you are allergic to, and thus it's possible if you eliminate whatever the cause is, once again could be most of your symptoms will clear up.  And if your asthma is unknown origin, then looks like he would give you some better pills and a good puffer to keep your lungs open better.  I hate it that you have to use a ventilator!  Gosh!  Could be even that needs to be checked over by your allergy doc, to make sure it's working well.

So, go to your regular doc, ask him if he thinks you should be referred to an endocrinologist, and get some thyroid testing.  Then also revisit your allergy doc and ask him to try to figure out how come you have asthma or give you better medicines and so forth.

Let me say a couple things about your depression.  It comes from all sorts of things, and for you it has a lot to do with all this struggling and frustration you've been dealing with as relates to your lousy health and pain.  Also, tranquilizers can tend to depress a person, as well as depress the breathing system!  So, it's good you're going to rehab.  If you need to sleep well in the future, ask your doc if you can try the natural melatonin route from the health food store, just whenever you cannot relax enough to sleep.

But once they get your back straight, you won't need the pain drugs as much, which they can rev up the body.  Also, if you find out your thyroid or whatever gland is out of whack, they have medicines for it, and that will also help you sleep better.  And one more thing, anytime you feel out of control with nerves, practice deep breathing, it'll slow the heart and thus anxiety.  I hope you get better soon, you are a wreck, to be sure, and I am worried about you.
