Membranes stripped?

Everyone keeps telling me I should ask to have mine stripped since my due date is Thurs and I haven't really felt any contractions.  My midwife hasn't mentioned it though and I'm curious what you ladies think.

I had my membranes stripped just before I was going to be induced.  It didn't help me avoid the induction, but it did cause some cramping and spotting.  I'd definitely try it before an induction, but some people are very opposed.  I think it can be associated with accidentally breaking the amniotic sac.

It is normal for first-time mothers to go over their dates, I wouldn't worry about it. Try and get things to occur naturally or you can try a few methods to get things kick started (if baby is ready). E.g.

- intercourse, the prostaglandins in semens helps to bring on contractions
- spicy food
- fresh pineapple
- brisk long walks or light jogging
- climbing up and down stairs several times
- dancing around

I tried almost everything with my first-born, nothing worked. Just don't try castor oil. Good luck!
