c section

I'm currently 35 weeks & I was told by my doctor that I have to have a c section because I had reconstruction surgery after my first child. I'm really nervous because of the horror stories my coworkers told me. Has anyone had a positive experience with a c section?

I had a c-section first time around due to back to back large baby and failure to progress. Now 36wks with number 2 and doctors very supportive of a vbac attempt.

My c-section was after 4days of labour. It was a calm experience and the medical staff were fantastic. I had an epi, and it just felt like someone rummaging around! 10mins later a met my beautiful little boy. It took about 25mins to stitch me up and then I was able to go to the ward and do some bonding!!

The recovery was sore - as if I was doing 1000 sit ups every day and suffering for it!! The painkillers were great, I used them for 3days and then paracetamol was fine. I was up and walking 2days later. It was frustrating to not be able to get out of bed in the hood to tend to my son, but the midwives were great. When you do first stand up (usually within 24hrs) you may get a rush of blood, completely normal but can take you by surprise!!

I get annoyed at what bad press c-sections get. It was my only choice to deliver baby safely. The recovery is hard, but within a week  most of the pain was gone. And to be honest I am sure a vaginal birth can cause a lot of discomfort too!!

Rest assured that your baby's arrival will still be special and that you will be fine. Wishing you all the best!

Hello n.n I personally have not had a c section, but my fiance's ex has, so I know a little about it. It takes quite a bit longer to heal from a cesarean than it does from a vaginal birth and they'll give you an extra day at the hospital. You have to be very careful after the procedure so that you don't lose too much blood. Try not to bend over, pick anything up, or even stand for awhile. Also, after you have a C section, if you have any additional children, you will have to deliver them via cesarean as well. It's not that scary, just painful and takes awhile to recover from, but don't worry, you're doctor's will help you manage the pain. Good luck with your delivery!!!!
