Macroadenoma/Cabergoline

Hello I was wondering about my treatment on Cabergoline. I had an MRI taken because I had high prolactin  levels it was discovered that I had a tumor 13 mm in my pituitary gland. I was prescribed Cabergoline and have been taking it since Dec.before discovering my diagnosis my menses was missing for about 2 years and came down for a whole month before I was treated on csbergoline I have had on and off spotting, and bleeding while on Cabergoline and also have had bleeding for 12 days  straight and counting is this normal will my period ever go back to being normal which is 5 days and what else can be the reason for the bleeding how will I know when I'm ovulating?? Or if i am.

Dear Babyluck4me.

I agree with the opinion of our team (Horselip and Rumpled). I am glad you are discussing that situation with your doctor. I will say that it most likely will be a transient problem. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

thanks

Thank you so much for replying I had an appt .just the other day and now doctor is checking thyroid and now I have to take an echo test I'm sure these are all precautions but it can get upsetting at times. Low dose estradoil tabs sounds interesting I will talk about this to my obgyn maybe that can help with my problem.  Thank you for the luck....have a great day :)

Hi-
I stopped having my menstrual cycle when my prolactin levels where high. I also took cabergoline and had very heavy cycles initially but it improved after about six months. My gyno ordered a ultrasound to check the thickness of my uterine lining and make sure that I did not have endometriosis and/or ovarian cysts. I did not. /she also prescribed low dose vaginal estradiol tabs that I could use to stop a cycles if it went beyond 7 days.

She also ran lab tests on the FSH, LH, estradiol, progesterone and other things. to make sure that I can was having pituitary related issues vs other things.

It takes time. If you did not have cycles for 2 years it might take six months for it to all even out. Like Rumpled said speak to your Gyne if you are wanting to get pregnant. I've met a few folks who started cavbergoline and did not have cycles again right away...ends up they were preggers.

Anyways there are more things that can be done to regulate the hormones, if needed. If you are wanting pregnancy then you should be working with a fertility endo regardless.
Best of luck!

You can consult your gyne.

Another way is to take your basal body temp every morning before you get out of bed. That will show if your body temp is changing with your cycle. But it may take a doctor to really know if you are fertile.

With pituitary issues, you may also need thyroid etc. so I hope  you have a good neuro-endo that is helping you with all your hormones.
