I HAD A BOY!!!!!!!!!

finally.... i had the baby after being 7 days overdue! i had a 10lb 5 oz baby boy. and he is amazing. we named him Cohen Michael.
i went in on tuesday the 23rd to be induced. my doc put the gel in at 9am and i started having contractions almost 15 minutes later. they were 2 minutes apart and were very painful and consistant from the beginning. i was 1.5cm dialated and my cervix was very thick. things continued on this way all day. i was in the shower for a total of 3 hours throughout the day for pain relief. i couldn't take any pain meds for fear that the contractions would stop. i was in ALOT of pain. finally at around 630 that evening, my doc came to the hospital to check on me and i was still contracting 2 minutes apart and was 3 cm dialated. i was then taken to labour and delivery where he broke my water. and was given the gas to help through contractions. things were progressing nicely and within a couple hours i was 5 cm dialated, and in ALOT more pain. i got my epidural around 1130...but it wouldnt freeze the right side of my body. i was having such intense contractions and back pain i thought i was going to die. it was awful. at about 2am i couldnt handle the pain in the right side of my body and i was exhausted. the anathesiologist came back and gave me more epidural, it still did not freeze my right side. i was given an iv of some meds, im not sure of the name but it was from the morphine family, i did not find any relief from it at all, so they gave me more. finally at about 4 i was 9cm dialated and ready to push. my doc was called and by the time he got there, i was fully dialated and ready to push. i pushed and pushed for what seemed like forever. finally at about 5:15 am on wednesday september 25th, my son Cohen was born, weighing a whopping 10lbs 5 ozs. i was soooo relieved. i didnt even have to get stitches. then more problems came up.... my placent wouldnt come out. i kept pushing and pushing... i was exhausted. after being in intense pain for almost 20hours, i had no strength left. my placenta finally came out after about 45 minutes, but then i started to hemmorage badly. there was sooo many medical staff in my room, i was so scared. they had 4 different iv's in me. i had 2 people "massaging" my uterus to try to stop the blood. everywhere i looked there was blood. i was terrified. finally at about 6:15... everything was under control and i was able to hold my son, and try to relax. we are home now, both happy and healthy

A 10 lb, 5 oz baby and no stitches??  Good for you!  Ava was 7 lb, 11 oz and I have lots of stitches - I asked how many, but they didn't want to tell me.  It took 1.5 hrs of stitching though!

Your experience sounds traumatic, but you have a healthy baby which is what matters :)

I agree that the post delivery period isn't as great as everyone seems to say.  Instead of bonding with my baby, I was a bloody shaky mess.  The placenta was basically pulled out from me so that they could stitch me up to stop the bleeding - ouch.  Not great times, but also a blur now.  And there's a beautiful little one to show for it.

Congrats on the arrival of Cohen!

Congratulations!!  That is quite a large baby... that's great that you were able to have him vaginally (you don't see that too often with such a big baby).  It sounds like you had quite a rough experience, but I'm glad to hear you finally have your wee-one to hold in your arms.
