Dialated to a 3 1/2 YEAH but positive for Group B Strep???

Hey Girls,
  Well, went to the doc and 3rd times a charm- finally, on my third baby I dialated past a 2 on my own. My contractions are still going good and I'm at a 3 1/2 but they sent me home.  However, I was Group B Strep Positive.  I asked my doc. what this meant and he explained it but still makes me nervous. Anyone else out there pos. for this and have a fine delivery. What makes me more nervous is that they want to give the antibiotics 4 hours before you deliver but if I'm already at a 3 1/2 with constant contractions, I don't know if that will happen PLUS if they don't get them in you, the baby has to stay an extra day for antibiotics.  Any advise????  Hopefully D-Day is today or tomorrow!!!

Yay! Glad to hear you are making progress - I am 1 cm dilated 25% effaced.  So I am jealous that you are further than I am - I would definitely go get checked b/c GBS positive you need to be hooked up to that IV for four hours (liked the others said) but they will also give baby injections and stuff he needs them and you deliver before the four hours - just make sure that you tell them when you go to triage to be admitted so they can get it started ASAP - I am negative though and just found that out.  HTH

so happy for you !!! im negative, so im not sure what it all means to be positive! but the fact that you are a few days , or maybe hours, is so exciting...we have been waiting for this day for so long,,,shortly you will have ur baby in ur arms !! lucky girl!

Yep,I had it.  I received a drip prior to my c section.  My Dr. also had me on oral antibiotics for 7 days in case I had to have an emergency delivery during that time.  No biggie---it is VERY common.  Keep us posted on your soon to be delivery!!!!!

and also my baby went home with me the same day i was discharged he didnt have to stay an extra day.

yes i am groub b strep positive also and i gave birth on oct.28 my baby is perfectly fine....they gave me liquid pencillin every four hours until i gave birth....everything will be fine just remeber to tell them that u r GBS positive when u go into labor so they can hook u up right away. GOOD LUCK....and remember to PUSH!!! lol
