Baby Behaviour at 8.5 Weeks

First off, I'd like to say Congratulations to everybody on the birth of your little ones :)

My son Liam was born on Jan 20th at 8lbs. I haven't been on here since because I've been crazy busy trying to adjust as a mom. I had many issues with breastfeeding and spent alot of time at doctors, with lactation consultants etc, but I think I have it under control now and things are well.

My only concern is Liam's behaviour and I am wondering if it is in sync with other baby's his age. He is 8weeks + 3 days old now and he doesn't really interact with us. He spends most of his time staring at walls. If I try to come into his stare, he looks away. He gives me about 2 smiles/day and will look at me a few times during the day but for the most part it seems as though he is looking right through me, like I am not even there.

If you have a few minutes, I'd really appreciate it if you could share some stories of how your babies acted at this age. I am interested to know whether this is the norm of if I have reason to be concerned...

Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance :)  It was actually very ironic that I posted this because the very next day Liam started to interact with us like crazy! Now a few days later, he's a little smiling machine!! I am amazed at how he changed so fast!

He is now looking right as us, cooing, and last night he even squeeled in delight! I was started to get worried there.. For next months milestones at least I will be reassured that it could happen any day... :)

I will post a pic of my lil man. He is so adorable!

Our girl was also born on Jan 20.  She smiles but not all that often.  She smiles at us sometimes but also at objects and especially at her own reflection in the mirror.  She can be sociable and look at our faces but when she is not sociable she can stare right through us or at the walls.  Concentrating on a face is a fairly new skill for someone at 8 weeks.  I am sure Liam will be giving you lots of smiles in no time!

Corbin is very alert! He smiles all day long and babbles when some one makes face to face contact with him. He sits in his swing and focus' on the fish on the mobile. He also tries to find where noises are coming from by moving his head towards the sound. If your concerned, talk with your doctor.
