My mother passed a kidney stone, and thru xrays associated with that, a lung mass was found. She was scheduled for a CT scan. The results follow:
size 2.9
left lung inferior hilum
number of lobes, multi-lobular
lungs well aerated, normal vascularity
left lower lobe lung mass, 2.9 Cm (average diameter)
contour is lobulated, and there is some hypoechoic change within adjoining lung parenchyma
associated with inferior left hilum
no calcifications within it
findings suspicious for malignancy
no hilar or mediastinal adenopathy
normal heart size
aerta norrmal
no other masses are identified
impression 2.9 cm average, suspicious for malignancy
PET scanning may be of value, no other masses identified
no lymphadenopathy is detected
She is 59 y.o. non smoker (never smoked); though has a family history of lung cancer. A biopsy is being scheduled. Can someone help me interpret/understand the results of the CT scan?
