Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can make them worse. I don't have any tips for relief. I have been lucky enough not to get them yet (knock on wood) but I'm sure they are coming! With my past pregnancies I would get them in the middle of the night and wake up with excruciating pain and then limp around all day. I think they say potassium can help as well? Sorry I don't have any suggestions on relief though!
I have had the same problem. I have woken twice in a cramp and had to wake my hubbie to pull on the ball of my foot to release the cramp. Then I am in pain for a few days.
Someone told me magnesium helps but maybe it was potassium. I haven't changed from my usual vitamens though as I wouldn't want to overdo anything and cause problems. I have increased my salt intake a little as well as my fluid level and I can't say it has helped much.
The ob I saw just said that this can be common (not much help.....)
I have just got some nice foot cream that I plan to use to massage my calves before I go to bed. So I will let you know if this helps.
I've been getting them too! Oooo they are awful. I just repeatedly flex and straighten my foot 'till it goes away, but man-oh-man is it painful!

i get them to its so painful
I think the poster above who mentioned potassium may be right, I would not recommend a supplement in addition to pre-natal vitamins, try eating two large bannanas per day see if it helps. If not you should all contact your drs,,
I'll try the bananas, thats easy enough. Yeah, I don't want to take any supplements or anything other than the prenatal and iron prescribed by the Dr. The worst part is it not only kills at the moment of cramping but it still hurts 3 days later. Ahhh, the things we women suffer through.
You sound exactly like me in that it's so hard not to stretch in the morning after sleeping on your side all night and then BAM there it is. Except that mine are really not bad. It's an unpleasant feeling and you want it to stop ASAP but I'm not in pain and once it's gone, it' truly gone. I'm wondering if jenstam isn't right and drinking water is the key because I don't take anything but my regular prenatal vitamin and I do drink a fair bit of water. I drink at LEAST one and a half liters per day if not two.
My doc told me that no one really knows why they happen and he did give the advice to drink more water but he also said that once the cramp starts flex the footup towards your leg rather then pointing your foot if that makes any sence he used his hand as demonstration lol. it does in deed work hope this helps
yes i have those I just had this happen on tuesday and my calf`s are still sore when i walk up the stairs or down its like pulling my muscles all over again but just not as painful as when i first done it on tuesday.. :0(
OH I HATE THOSE! I wake up constantly in the middle of the night and I'll stretch my legs then all of a sudden a tightening feeling on the calf will just hit me and it'll hurt so bad. Sometimes I'll be on the verge of tears because it hurts so bad. Then I'll just start rolling around on my bed, cursing out until it stops which takes a couple minutes..lol and then pass out again.
Hi Happy Pregos, I am 30 weeks with the flu but what worries me is my baby boy has a very faint heartbeat with a home fetal monitor. I don't think it's serious but I'm still worried. Is the baby sick because I am? Any advice
