Wow Meg, i was shocked to read how young you are. I am 38 and was diagnosed with cirrhosis 3/23/10. I thought I was pretty young but really it didnt come as much of a surprise with how much i would drink. I was diagnosed to be in the final stage only 8 months ago and now because i do exactly as my doctor recommends all of my liver enzymes have returned to normal except my platlette count is low. Even my amonia level is normal. i have no doubts ill live as old as god intended me to do. I was just like you, wondering wow is this really it for me? not quite exactly what i expected outta life. I use to drink ne less than 23 beers a day. I realized the first thing i was gonna have to do is give it up. Just like you need to do and your body will do the rest! Sad to say i had to find a reason that was good enough to make me want to give it up and keep on living and i figured it out very quickly. i didnt really care if i lived or died but there were people in my life that really needed me around. i thought long and hard how their lives would be without me being a part of it and right away i knew i couldnt keep being selfish, I had to do it for them! It sound like your at that same spot I was where I had to make a choice, Make the right one Meg and show everyone that not even this can take you down. Stop the drinking completely and NO cheating because your the one getting cheated. With in a weeks time I had gave up drinking completely, no detox or rehab. It had to be done now! Go to the other forums that medhelp offers and read. This is a great place to come and see how others are dealing with a varity of things in there lives. You are young and strong you can beat this! If you dont mind id like to add you to my friends list and see how your doing from time to time. Randy

There are some support groups that deal specifically with cirrhosis and you should seek them out. I've done some reading on it, and I do know this:  if you catch it early and stop drinking (or stop doing the activity that caused the cirrhosis) you can continue to live a long and productive life.  Although the scar tissue on the liver is non-functioning, you can generate good (working) liver cells between the scar tissue an on other areas of the liver. Follow the doctors orders and do not drink alcohol under any circumstances.

Hi Meg and Welcome to the forum. we have a excellent forum for alcoholics that you would be able to glean a lot of good advice from.. your body sure gave you a strong warning that if you continue to drink what will happen.. I'm grateful you survived it.. You will only die if you continue to consume alcohol.. as said above seek out counseling as to why you feel you need to numb yourself with booze.. change up the places you go and your drinking buddies ok.. You can have a long life ahead of you if you take care of yourself.. I wish you continued recovery from your liver and kidney failure it is not a nice way to go so take care of yourself.. check into AA and find a meeting that fits this will help to give you the support you need.. lesa

Hi Meg
It sounds very scary for you, I don't know about the illness but if you carry on drinking you
will be in trouble.
Get help now counselling the AA, or go and get a detox as your health is the most important
thing. Deal with the emotional stuff that's making you drink your a young woman who needs
help and support.
God Bless
Love
