Hey... I've done some reading & Tink is right on. I'm 20 days sober today... so hanging right there with you. It ain't rainbows and unicorns... but laying off the alcohol gets better with each day. The first 10 days were the hardest for me... I was at the point of drinking just to drink... As they say in the movies "The Thrill Is Gone". Good Luck!
It's a curse
We like the "buzz" - that's why we drink to begin with. If not for the buzz, we would drink probably drink water or cola, etc., etc. It's the buzz we seek. With enough alcohol, over enough time, we develop 'tolerance' which means we need to drink more and more to develop that 'buzz'. The buzz comes from the body burning thiamine (B1)
Thiamine is an ESSENTIAL nutrient for healthy brain function. A deficiency of this nutrient causes brain damage.
I could tell You more as the list of the ravages/damage of drinking alcohol goes on and on and on. This I know is true.
I am glad You (for Your sake and all who love You) that You have decided to change what has become a lifelong behavior and I look forward to the updates of Your progress.
GoodLuck
Tink
